About Varadero
Cuba’s best-known beach resort, on the Hicacos Peninsula in Matanzas province, about 140 km east of Havana. Most of the peninsula is hotels; private homes are concentrated in the town at the western end and in nearby areas, so listings are few and often near Cárdenas.
Before you buy in Varadero
- Visit the home or send someone you trust: check water (cistern and tank), power, roof and structure.
- Ask for the title deed and a current Property Registry certificate; Law 187 requires the home to be registered before it is sold (art. 90.2).
- Payment must go through a bank, not cash (art. 90.1). Never pay deposits up front.
- A beach house declared a “holiday home” loses that status when it is sold (art. 138.4) and then counts towards the two-home limit.
